The importance of driving lessons cannot be overemphasized. Being a good driver is about more than knowing how to drive a vehicle—it’s about knowing the rules of the road and driving with confidence. Driving lessons are important for drivers of any age.
If you are an adult without a driver’s license, there are a number of reasons that you should attend driving lessons. Here are just 3 to consider:
In Illinois, you are required to take a driving test if you are a first-time applicant. Adult drivers are not legally required to complete driver’s education, but it’s a good idea to take supplemental driving lessons before your exam. Driving lessons are a great way to brush up on the material covered in the written exam and can help you prepare for the state driving test.
It’s possible to legally get on the road without full knowledge of the rules that are important for safe driving. But if you want to protect yourself and other motorists, you should learn the rules and procedures of the road. It’s one thing to read about street laws and driving practices in a textbook, but it’s another thing entirely to experience them firsthand from a professional driving instructor.
One of the biggest challenges facing new first-time drivers, regardless of age, is a lack of confidence. Driving without confidence may cause you to hesitate at the wrong time or freeze up in a trying situation, both of which can lead to accidents and injuries. Driving lessons can teach you the skills necessary to drive safely and with confidence.

It doesn't matter whether you're a teen fresh out of driving school or an experienced road warrior, the highway can be a real test or your driving abilities. Here are some useful lessons for staying safe on our nation's highways:
Keep to the right on the road.
Anyone who's had any drivers training can tell you that you should only pass on the left. Stay in the right hand lane unless you intend to pass.
Respect tractor trailers.
Big rigs are a unique hazard. The most important thing to remember is that if you can't see a truck's rear view mirrors, the driver can't see you. As with any vehicle, maintain at least a two second following distance. When passing a large truck, do not move back into the right hand lane until you can see both headlights in your rear view mirror.
Observe the posted speed limit.
The Federal Highway Administration has found that crash rates are lowest when traveling near the speed limit. Driving too fast or too slow will increase your chance of being involved in an accident.
Be aware of emergency vehicles.
If you see flashing lights or hear a siren, then immediately move to the right hand lane or shoulder, reduce speed, and wait for the emergency vehicle to pass. If you see an emergency vehicle on the right shoulder, then immediately move to the left hand lane. If there is no left hand lane, then reduce speed and pass cautiously.
Beware of fatigue.
If you find yourself feeling tired, then turn your air conditioning to maximum, turn up the volume on your radio, or pull over to take a nap.
Inspect and maintain your car.
Before going on the highway, make sure that your tires are properly inflated and inspected for damage, your fluid levels are normal, and your car has had its routine maintenance performed. Failing to do so could result in a flat tire or other failure. If you do experience a vehicle failure, pull as far over to the right hand shoulder as possible and stay with your vehicle until help arrives.
If you miss an exit, don't stop!
Continue driving until an opportunity arises to exit, turn around, drive the other direction with the proper flow of traffic, and return to your exit.
If you want high performance driver’s training that will have you merging confidently onto the interstate, then contact Adams School of Driving at (847) 965-6565.
